I would estimate I tapped 60 thru holes in 1.25" thick A36 steel, using a radial arm drill and tapping fluid each time, before it started slipping in the chuck (started dulling). I can still use the tap at a little higher speed but its probably time to buy another. So as the title says you get what you pay for. A more expensive tap will definitely last longer, but if you only plan on using this tap once in a while you probably can't beat the price. If you want something that will tap upwards of 200 holes, you will need to buy a more expensive brand.
