The One and Only, Genuine, Original Irish Coffee Glass
In 1952, on a chilly evening in San Francisco, a legend was born. After sampling Irish coffee at Shannon Airport in Ireland, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Stanton Delaplane returned home, eager to perfect the recipe. Teaming up with Jack Koeppler, owner of the famed Buena Vista Café, he spent the night experimenting, meticulously balancing the rich depth of Irish whiskey, the boldness of coffee, the sweetness of sugar, and the delicate float of cream.
But one final piece remained—the perfect glass.
They found it in a pedestal-footed, curved-flare design, an elegant vessel that not only showcased the drink’s signature layers but also retained heat beautifully, keeping the coffee warm while ensuring the cream remained perfectly perched on top. By the early 1960s, this iconic Irish coffee glass had become a fixture in San Francisco’s taverns and the famed restaurants of North Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf. Soon, no visit to the city was complete without raising a glass of authentic Irish coffee.

I used to live in San Francisco and The Buena Vista was one of my favorite stops. You can't beat the location and the irish coffee. After our last visit to SF I was really craving an irish coffee. This set comes with: 2 glasses, a bunch of Buena Vista paper coasters, and the irish coffee recipe they use. It was a little pricey but totally worth it. Cheers!

Best Christmas gift for our son and daughter in law for Christmas after their amazing trip to San Francisco. They went for the original Irish Coffee in the week of their vacation. So surprised when they opened it up at Christmas! We added all that would be needed to make the recipe except for the whipped cream!

This is a beautiful set. Came well packaged, and includes a recipe card and a stack of coasters. Glasses remind me of the style we saw in the pubs in Dublin. Well made!

If you've never actually been to San Francisco, this is a good way to start. These glasses are exactly like the ones at the Buena Vista Café. Follow the enclosed recipe, then sit back and imagine the sound of a cable car bell. (The Buena Vista is located not far from the cable car turnaround at Beach Street and Hyde Street.) It will be just like being there!
